No. You can buy a plan on its own and share your profile by link, QR code, Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. A physical product adds tap-to-share.

NFC lets a phone read a small chip from a few centimetres away. Your Card2Tap card uses it to open your profile with a tap, with no app.

No. Your card holds a permanent tap link, so profile changes show as soon as you save. You never need to reprogram the card.
